A professor in the Faculty of Polish Studies, JU; he studies the history of Polish literature in the 18th and 19th centuries, as well as the questions of historical poetics; he published e.g. a monography entitled Fabuła powieści polskiego oświecenia (2002), Julian Ursyn Niemcewicz (2003, in: Historia literatury polskiej w dziesięciu tomach, Vol. 4: Oświecenie, ed. by A. Skoczek), Oświecenie – zarys literatury okresu (2005, in: Literatura polska. Oświecenie, klasycyzm, ed. by M. Szulc), Emigranci, wygnańcy, wychodźcy... (2007, ed. with I. Węgrzyn), Byle w ludziach światło było... Księga pamiątkowa ku czci Profesora Wacława Woźnowskiego w dziesiątą rocznicę Jego śmierci (2012, ed.); he also edited an anthology of poems by Kazimierz Brodziński (Wybór poezji, 2003). Recently, another monography authored by him was published to offer the first comprehensive analysis of the poetic output of one of the most important writers of Polish enlightenment: Czuły weredyk. Twórczość poetycka Juliana Ursyna Niemcewicza (2015).

He is a member of the Polish Society for Eighteenth Century Studies. He also collaborates as a reviewer with the journal “Wiek Oświecenia”. For many years, he has been a lecturer in the School of Polish Language and Culture (JU) and a middle school teacher (Bez lektury i rozmowy – czy takiej szkoły chcemy?, in: Polonistyka dziś - kształcenie dla jutra, Vol. 1, ed. by K. Biedrzycki et al., 2014).
